v0.390 - Auto-Generated Lobby Names and Turn Timers
---------- Description ----------
Hello! In this update, you'll find that lobby names are now automatically generated, turn timers have been added to limit how long players can spend across all of their turns, a couple of quality-of-life changes make things nicer, and as always there are some bug fixes, hooray!
The choice to auto-generate lobby names was made to prevent players from creating inappropriate names as the game should be an enjoyable and safe experience for everyone. I hope everyone would agree that the importance of creating a safe environment for all players outweighs any benefits of being able to choose a lobby name.
I hope you all enjoy playing!
---------- Additions ----------
- Added a timer to measure how much time each player has available to spend across all of their turns.
- Created a new match setting for controlling how much time each player can spend on their turns.
- Added a button to the loading screen that cancels the load process.
- Added a stamp to the top right corner of the screen in the demo build.
---------- Changes ----------
- The game will now automatically restart itself instead of shutting down when encountering the 'resetting event queue' error.
- Lobby names are now randomly generated instead of being inputted by players.
- A message will now pop-up on-screen when a client has been idle for too long to let them know they'll be disconnected if they don't respond after 30 seconds or if the message has appeared three times, to prevent them from keeping a relay/lobby connection open indefinitely.
- Power-ups are now guaranteed to spawn at least every x turns.
- Hidden the regenerate mutators button when playing in an online match.
- Increased the darkness of inactive counters so they're easier to distinguish from active counters.
- The confirmation prompt now spawns at the cursor's position whenever it appears on-screen.
- Characters that aren't letters, numbers, or whitespace can no longer be used in a lobby's name or password, or when searching for a lobby.
- Increased the font size for all help box descriptions so they're easier to read.
- Increased the font size of all error messages.
- Changed the appearance of all cursors.
- Changed some of the main menu's play buttons so they remain highlighted when their sub-menus are opened.
---------- Fixes ----------
- Fixed counters moving out from their tile when resizing the application window by preventing the window from being resized when playing in windowed mode.
- Fixed power-up counters not moving/falling and preventing players from taking their turn after the counter below them is destroyed.
- Fixed counters from the previous match not being destroyed when restarting a local match.
- Fixed player counters sometimes creating scoring lines mid-air when they're flung.
- Fixed players scoring twice as many points as they should when blocking by flinging a counter.
- Fixed counters being able to block potential scoring lines without leaving their tile when they're flung.
- Fixed tiles along the left edge of the grid not being able to find several adjacent tiles when checking counters for points.
- Created a temporary fix for multiple counters being assigned to the same tile by destroying any extra counters placed inside of them.
- Fixed a '404 not found' error triggering when connecting to a lobby that gets closed by the host.
- Fixed several cases where the host's lobby was showing as full after a player disconnected.
- Fixed players appearing in lobbies that they've disconnected from.
- Fixed closing the play menu while creating a lobby causing the lobby browser to not display correctly when it's opened again.
- Fixed the floating block mutator setting not updating for other players after the host changes it.
- Fixed the main menu taking a long time to load when returning to it from an online match as a joining client.
- Fixed several cases where players couldn't leave an online match through the game over menu after it was cancelled while being loaded.
- Fixed the confirmation prompt being closed when clicking on its background.
- Fixed the loading screen suddenly disappearing while it's closing.
- Fixed some main menu buttons being highlighted when hovering over the blank space next to them.
- Fixed several null reference errors.
---------- Future Plans ----------
The main focus for the next update will be improving the game's sound effects and adding new sounds since it's an
integral part of any game and so far hasn't received the attention it deserves.
Until next time,
Liam
